Seismic
The modernization of Fullerton College’s historic Building 300 will preserve its 1937 architecture while upgrading facilities to support contemporary education. This project will improve accessibility, energy efficiency, and safety, blending tradition with innovation for a better learning environment.
Structural Upgrades That Preserve Historical Architecture
This Renovation encompassed both a major seismic retrofit and a comprehensive historical restoration. The structural scope included 84 new micro-piles and 64 CIDH piles, 24″ in diameter, tied together with several interior and exterior pile caps to stabilize and protect the existing foundations. Concurrently, Icon West preserved and restored the building’s historic character, including interior plaster finishes, exterior façade elements, entrance stairs, dome, and architectural steel windows and doors. The work required careful abatement, repair, and reconstruction to ensure historic features were protected throughout construction and returned to their original appearance upon completion.
