ARCHITECT: Wayne Chu-UCLA Business and Administrative services Housing Project Management
DESCRIPTION: Icon West recently completed the refurbishment of two existing 7 story administration and student housing towers totaling 424 student dorm rooms and over 30k sq. ft. of office space. The renovation of 140,000 sqft was performed while the building maintained partial occupancy. Over the course of the project, Icon West collaborated with the architect to resolve design issues regarding code compliance, this successful relationship saved weeks of potential schedule delays and change orders. Icon West’s scope of work included: modernization and refurbishment of all plumbing and HVAC (chillers, pumps, & boilers) systems, life safety and egress systems, replacement of 4 new elevators, new exterior glazing, power upgrade, 28 dorm shower and restroom facilities. Additionally, the team improved heating control and energy management system to provide optimum air distribution throughout the building. Working in tangent with the architect, the University and USGBC, our team was able to successfully complete the criteria for a LEED-CI GOLD rating. By working aggressively to achieve all of our clients goals, Icon West was able to achieve an incident free project while maintaining partial occupancy and still completing the project nearly four months ahead of schedule.
